About the Cardiac Action Group
The Cardiac Action Group (CAG) was formed as a registered charity in 1996 and became The Guernsey Cardiac Action Group LBG on 1 February 2023. The charity originally focused on raising awareness of heart disease, but it has now extended its activities to provide funding for a wide range of activities that will contribute to saving lives of those suffering cardiac arrest in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
Our Aims
1. To raise awareness of heart disease and sudden cardiac arrest in the Bailiwick through an education programme provided free of charge in the community.
2. To facilitate training on how to perform CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) and how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) so the public can help save lives safely in the event of cardiac arrest.
3. To Fund the employment, of a highly qualified Community Resuscitation Development Officer (CRDO) who will manage and deliver the community training programme who is professionally monitored through the Health and Social Care Department (HSC).
4. To make Guernsey a safer place to live by facilitating the placement of 24-hour access Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) in strategic sites around the island, working with the CAG team to advise on PAD choice and installation, and managing maintenance using a SmartApp monitoring system developed by CAG and supported though the 265+ volunteer guardians trained by CAG.
Our Activities include:
- Raising the profile and importance of Heart Health.
- Educating the community on how to recognise the difference between a Heart Attack and a Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
- Delivering free life-saving training in the workplace, community centres, schools and other venues across the islands.
- Teaching the knowledge and skills to deliver immediate Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), how to access a Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) site and use the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) in the event of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
- Facilitating the procurement, planning applications and installation of PAD sites.
- Training and supporting PAD site Guardians who will monitor the working order of PAD equipment and report on problems.
- Developing and maintaining a robust PAD site repair and maintenance system.
- Organising heart health awareness and training events including Restart a Heart Week.
- Securing funding for heart health projects and financing equipment, training and staff costs
- Providing a good governance structure to oversee our activities and results.
