Restart a Heart Week 2024

When someone suddenly becomes unconscious and stops breathing normally it is important to dial 999 and ask for a defibrillator, immediately perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), if one is available.

The Guernsey Cardiac Action Group are organising a week-long Restart a Heart Week event from 14th - 18th October. Mike Froome, our Community Resuscitation Development Officer, will be offering our FREE training throughout the week to the community which provides opportunities to get CPR experience, use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and gain skills and confidence to help save a life.

Mike Froome said: “When someone has a cardiac arrest, the bystander’s involvement can be crucial in saving a life and the quality of that person’s life. Immediate hands only CPR and the use of an AED, while you are waiting for the ambulance to arrive can give the patient the best chance of life, which is why Restart a Heart Week is so important. We are delighted to be working with different community groups here in Guernsey to offer the training to as many people as possible.”

FREE hour long training sessions are available and taking place in a range of venues throughout the week including St. Martins Community Centre, Princess Elizabeth Hospital, Laumaone Surgery, Styx Community Centre, St. Sampsons Douzaine, St. Sampsons Surgery, Scout Headquarters & the Guernsey Yacht Club.
